Jesus says: Launch Out into the Deep

Louis and I launched a website/blog last month,

This adventure has been exhilarating and challenging -- so much to learn. The task seemed daunting. However, God is using the Internet every moment now to propel His Word across the globe. So, though the learning curve is steep, we are tackling it, one small technical hill at a time. I designed our website and that’s not something I ever thought I could do!

God’s calling equals His equipping. If He calls us to it, He will guide us through it.

We have felt compelled to do this. “Compel” means to “force or oblige (someone) to do something.” Hmmm…is compel too strong a word? Does God force us to do something? No, not something that is against our will. But if our will is surrendered to His, we allow Him to compel us to do whatever is in His heart.

I’ve also recorded a couple of videos for social media. Talk about daunting. The first time I posted a video, a few days ago, I put it out there on Instagram, then pitched a huge tantrum with God. I literally had to put my phone in a drawer to keep myself from deleting it within moments. It was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done. I asked God to let just one person like it, or I wouldn’t have the courage to not delete it or ever do it again. I didn’t pull my phone out for two hours, and thank God, my sister had liked it! Thank you, Patti. Overnight, about 30 people I’ve never met watched it and started following our Instagram account, @KnowingYourGod. If you missed it, trust me, there isn't anything special about it. So though I resisted every step of the way, God was faithful. Story of my life... :(

So what do we feel compelled to do, who are we trying to reach, and how can you be involved?!

We’re being obedient one step at a time, so full disclosure: We’re not exactly sure, but we do know a few things we can share with you. This is a faith journey. Even Abraham didn’t know where he was going when God called him out!

What are we doing?

We are pursuing a mission statement God gave me years ago: “Harvest the harvesters. Equip the equippers. Identify their identities in Christ.” We have led small groups of amazing people for many years and have discipled them in their faith. This is that – discipleship – on a different platform.

We also feel called to write about basic principles from the Bible which will help Christ-followers “connect the dots” – grasp the essential components of their faith, propel them into service, and equip them to walk under God’s blessings and favor. We want to share these principles with you through our blog/website.

Who are we trying to reach?

Here’s who we think it is right now, but God could certainly clarify more later:

  • To reach those who don’t know God or maybe had an encounter but don’t know Him intimately yet;

  • To reach those who want a more stable spiritual foundation and to mature in their Christian walk;

  • To reach those who desperately want to be equipped to serve;

  • To reach the isolated ones, the ones who feel alone, often in a crowd, maybe even in a church;

  • To reach those who might feel unworthy or disqualified for service; and

  • To reach the ones who think God has forgotten them or has them simmering on the back burner.

How can you be involved?

Pray for those God wants to reach. Also, all prayer is appreciated to discern our next steps.

We encourage you to listen for God’s voice today. Launch out in faith wherever He says to go. The disciples were not disappointed when Jesus told them to “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” (Luke 5:4 NKJV) Because they obeyed His direction, they caught a “great number of fish.” So many fish, their nets were breaking!

The harvest is great and the workers are few. Is God calling you to be a harvester? “And Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” (v.10)

Launch out into the unknown today. Don’t let fear stop you.

God has an amazing catch waiting for you.

Bible Verse of the Day: “When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, ‘Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.’” Luke 5:4 NKJV
