Power Prayer: My Heart Cry for God's Direction

Updated: May 9, 2019

Words are merely words unless spoken from the heart. Before praying this prayer, read through it and ask God to reveal truth to you. Pray as God leads:

Father God, thank you for my salvation through Jesus Christ. I am richly blessed through His work on the cross which assures me of eternal life and the favor of your love.

Lord, my heart cry is for your direction in my life.

I repent of fear, Father, and every disobedient thought which has kept me from pursuing your purposes for my life. If you call me, I know you will equip me. If you lead me to it, I know you will guide me through it. I choose to obey you, Lord, so direct me.

Do I turn to the left or to the right? I know you want me to follow your will and I humbly ask you to guide me. I desire to delight and obey you. But which way do I go?

Make the path straight and abundantly clear to me, Father. I don’t want to make a choice contrary to your desires. I ask you to open the right doors and shut the wrong ones, and order my steps to line up with your purposes. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, NOW, in my life.

Your Word says to let the peace of God rule our hearts. So I ask you to give me peace about whatever your plan is. Let me have an internal conviction of the right path to pursue. I reject fear and unbelief. Help me discern your peace and recognize it as one of the ways you direct my steps. I boldly ask for a “peace that passes all understanding” concerning your direction for me. Let me know and discern thoroughly your chosen plan.

Father, I also ask you to confirm your will to me -- through your Word, through the counsel of godly men and women, through practical circumstances, and through hearing your voice. I desire to understand you clearly, Lord.

Then help me move forward in obedience, trusting you to direct me at every point on this journey. As I step out in faith, Lord, strengthen me to take the next step, then the next, reminding me to consult you at every crossroad. You know my heart, so if I make a misstep, I ask you to gently course correct me.

I know you have the plan, the blueprint for my life, and you desire to give me hope and a future. You would never harm me. Direct me to your plan and guide me through it. You are the Author and Finisher of my faith. I submit my life to you, to direct as you please, because I want my life to bring honor and pleasure to your heart.

Thank you for your divine direction, Father God, and for moving me forward in the right direction, in Jesus’ name. AMEN.
